We are currently looking for an experienced VAT or Customs Consultant to assist the busy and expanding Indirect tax team in  Bristol. In this role, you will provide a prompt and professional advisory service to all clients, staff and partners across business, trusts, charities and other firms of accountants.

We are open to speaking to individuals looking for full time or part time hours/days.

About you: 

  • The following are useful but not essential: CTA (indirect tax route), AIIT or VAT Diploma
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in VAT or Customs
  • Would suit a candidate currently working in VAT or Customs for HMRC, practice or an in-house position
  • Broad knowledge of all areas of VAT or Customs. Would be advantageous to have experience in overseas trade, construction, land and property and partial exemption
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Analytical and methodical in approach to work
  • Accurate, organised and able to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • Comfortable dealing with clients, staff and third parties by telephone and in person
  • A team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of VAT / Customs e.g. legislation, case law and guidance
  • Able to effectively communicate technical and complex issues, both orally and in writing
  • Proactive and confident in identifying problems and offering solutions
  • Willing to travel to clients and other offices across the region
  • Full, clean driving licence and unrestricted access to transport is preferable, although there is limited travel at the moment due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provision of VAT and/or customs advice to staff, partners and clients including preparation of detailed letters and reports
  • Dealing with queries from other firms of accountants
  • Liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on behalf of clients and attendance at compliance visits as required
  • Assign tasks and review work of trainee consultants
  • Preparing both marketing and training materials
  • Managing the billing process.
