VAT / Customs Consultant (0594)

We are looking for a VAT/ Customs Consultant to join our busy and expanding Indirect Tax team in providing a prompt and professional advisory service to all clients, staff and partners across business, trusts, charities and other firms of accountants.

This role could be full or part time, so please talk to us about your required working pattern. 

About you: 

You will ideally have experience of working in VAT or Customs and will come from either a practice or in-house position and this could include working for HMRC. If you are CTA (indirect tax route), AIIT or VAT Diploma qualified, that would be great but its not essential. 

  • Broad knowledge of all areas of VAT or Customs. Would be advantageous to have experience in overseas trade, construction, land and property and partial exemption and other indirect taxes
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Analytical and methodical in approach to work
  • Accurate, organised and able to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • Comfortable dealing with clients, staff and third parties by telephone and in person
  • A team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of VAT / Customs e.g. legislation, case law and guidance
  • Able to effectively communicate technical and complex issues, both orally and in writing
  • Proactive and confident in identifying problems and offering solutions
  • Willing to travel to clients and other offices across the region, as appropriate
  • Full, clean driving licence and unrestricted access to transport is preferable

What you’ll be doing:

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provision of VAT and/or customs advice to staff, partners and clients including preparation of detailed letters and reports
  • Dealing with queries from other firms of accountants
  • Liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on behalf of clients and attendance at compliance visits as required
  • Assign tasks and review work of trainee consultants
  • Preparing both marketing and training materials
  • Managing the billing process
