We are looking for an accountancy technical learning expert to join the people team at an incredibly exciting time for PKF-Francis Clark.  The firm has recently evolved its strategy to make the firm recognised as a great place to work.  An important part of this is to provide our people with the technical knowledge and experience, as well as the behaviours, to achieve their ambitions.

This builds on our existing strategic approach to learning and development.  We have moved from a traditional style of selection from a list of training courses to a modern and progressive approach incorporating employee ownership, engaging assessment of individual learning needs and using technology to deliver demand led blended learning solutions.

To build on these foundations and realise the firm’s ambitions, we need a progressive, practical and collaborative experienced professional to lead the development and delivery of the technical aspect of our learning strategy.  They will oversee our pre and post qualified technical training with direct responsibility for post qualified learning and management of a Technical Learning Specialist responsible for pre-qualified learning.  

They will develop and deliver our key strategic project to provide technical and behavioural learning aligned to Family Business Connect and specialist needs at a post qualified level.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have pragmatically created and implemented a learning and development strategy based on business need, influenced stakeholders to gain commitment, diagnosed individual and collective technical learning needs and designed and delivered (where within skill set) innovative technical learning solutions using a range of complementary methods.  This role will work collaboratively with the wider people team consisting of Resourcing and Talent, Regional Business Partners and a People Services administrative team.

About you: 

As a Technical Learning Manager, you are expected to have a strong understanding of the technical knowledge and experiences in a modern accountancy practice.  You will be able to create a technical learning strategy, diagnose individual and collective technical learning needs and make a positive impact on performance and potential at all levels across the firm. You will be able to manage and influence a number of stakeholders, including those more senior and technically proficient than you.  You will have a good understanding of different learning styles and personality preferences and the impact on the design of technical learning interventions. You will enjoy and excel at managing a range of internal and external providers to deliver design and deliver technical training across the firm. You will have a passion for learning by doing and experiential learning approaches.  You will have experience of leading and managing others.

In addition:

  • A background in accountancy
  • Experience in developing and implementing a technical training strategy
  • Experience in technical learning needs analysis, design and delivery, coordination and managing the day to day activities
  • Understanding of learning styles and modern delivery techniques
  • Line management and leadership experience
  • A desire to embrace and drive change whilst identifying and implementing process improvements and demonstrating best practice
  • Client focused with an understanding of how to make ideas practical and relevant; and how to manage internal relationships effectively 
  • Project management experience with ability to scope, plan, implement and evaluate Learning and Development interventions effectively
  • Experience of developing and implementing a communication strategy to support wider strategic objectives
  • Creative and innovative with a passion for generating new ideas and challenging the status quo
  • Solution-orientated, persistent and determined 
  • A collaborative, team player with an enthusiastic, can do approach
  • Commercially aware with an understanding of the economic and business environment and market trends 
  • Articulate, with excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to listen to and engage with people at all levels
  • Strong IT, digital and social media skills
  • Well organised with an attention to detail, an ability to deliver to deadlines and to prioritise effectively.
  • Knowledge and network of local and national training providers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to create a strategy, governance structure and quality assure technical training aligned to the knowledge areas that make up the success profile (competency framework)
  • Carry out annual service line and individual training needs analysis to enable us to plan and develop core technical training to our fee earning colleagues
  • Create innovative programmes of learning aligned to training needs analysis to develop specialist technical skills and behavioural skills aligned to our values and success profiles
  • Create innovative programmes of technical learning aligned to Family Business Connect to ensure that we are developing well rounded professionals. Work together with the learning and Change Manager to ensure that behavioural skills are incorporated into the programme and developed
  • Design and deliver technical learning / programmes within skill-set and liaise with subject matter experts within the practice
  • Engage with technical learning providers, where outsourcing is required, and manage all areas of engagement and delivery
  • Continually develop our success profile (competency framework) based on feedback and evolving business needs for technical knowledge and experience
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of innovative, interactive and practical ways to encourage people to use the success profile to assess performance and development needs
  • Build on work started to develop a suit of blended technical learning solutions using myLearning (Learning Management System) and aligned to the knowledge required at the four levels within the firm
    • Maintain library of learning resources e.g. books, abstracts, journals.
    • Manage e-learning providers and solutions
    • Decide the learning outcomes required for a range of technical courses and determine the most appropriate form of delivery, either through themselves, internal experts, by external training providers or a combination thereof. Tender for and manage any external providers in terms of timing, cost and quality
  • Advise the business and individuals on how to develop the experiences specified in the success profile needed to be a rounded advisor or technical specialist
  • Lead and manage a Technical Learning Specialist responsible for pre-qualified learning and student support
  • Work with the central People Services team responsible for administration to arrange and monitor learning
  • Manage the technical learning budget, ensuring value for money
  • Liaise with HR and Learning and Development colleagues in the wider PKF network to share best practice and utilise opportunities to leverage economies of scale.
