Junior IT Developer (0561)

We are currently recruiting for a Junior Web Developer to join our IT team in our Torquay office. 

About you:

The experience required to be successful in this role include:

  • Use of Frameworks: Node, React etc
  • Deep understanding of Wordpress
  • Experience of development methodologies (such as Agile and Waterfall)
  • Version control systems, and a thorough understanding of the architecture of web
  • Database understanding MySQL MSSQL AWS: RDS Aurora Redshift
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Visual Studio and the Microsoft stack

You will have experience of using a number of the below:

  • Visual Studio
  • PHP
  • MySQL
  • Node
  • React
  • MSSQL
  • Data extraction
  • Machine Learning/AI
  • Python
  • AWS
  • API’s

Some of the personal qualities that we are looking for include:

  • Mathematical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Teamwork skills, because most projects require input from individuals with different roles
  • Self-development skills to keep up to date with fast-changing trends
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • An understanding of the latest web trends and their role in a commercial environment
  • Some knowledge and experience of Programming languages such as HTML5, JavaScript and PHP

There is no formal qualification needed, as knowledge, experience and mindset are usually the most important requirements, although we would prefer applicants to have a technical degree or equivalent if possible (or be working towards one). Short university, or equivalent, courses on specific topics like developing web applications in PHP, Node, React and MySQL, and computer science would be beneficial.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Discussing user requirements and proposed solutions with team lead
  • Implementing new designs
  • Using development tools to write and test code to develop solutions
  • Write code in one or more programming or scripting languages, such as PHP or JavaScript
  • Plan and prototype new applications
  • Test sites and applications in different browsers and environments
  • Build and test Application Program Interfaces (APIs) for applications to exchange data
  • Document code, so other developers can understand and contribute to it
  • Fix bugs in existing projects
  • Test new features thoroughly to ensure they perform the correct task in all cases
